However, his presence is seen as a disturbance by the town's authoritarian Sheriff, Will Teasle (played with chilling intensity by Brian Dennehy). The sheriff attempts to run him out of town, and when Rambo refuses to simply vanish, Teasle has him arrested on trumped-up charges. The situation quickly escalates. When the deputies at the station try to forcibly shave him, a traumatic trigger for a former POW, Rambo's suppressed combat instincts explode. He overpowers the officers, escapes the station, and disappears into the surrounding Pacific Northwest wilderness, stealing a police motorcycle.
