The show was the brainchild of director and writer Joydip Banerjee, who co-wrote the screenplay with Soumit Deb. Banerjee has shared that the series was inspired by his observations of how Bengali women, particularly from middle-class backgrounds, seem to let go of their inhibitions when they travel outside their city. He wanted to explore this "smashing of female stereotypes" and the emergence of an "uninhibited free soul" through the lens of a dark comedy.
