What is Family Place?

Unlike many other tafsirs, Ibn Kathir's methodology is uniquely systematic and rigorous. It is celebrated for its "tafsir bi'l-ma'thur" approach—interpreting the Quran through other verses of the Quran, the authentic Hadith (sayings of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him), and the statements of the Prophet's companions (Sahabah) and their successors (Tabi'un). This approach provides a high level of authenticity, avoiding weak narrations and speculative philosophy. As a result, it is a cornerstone of orthodox Islamic scholarship.

Tamil is one of the oldest surviving classical languages in the world, with a rich literary tradition spanning over 2,000 years. However, the Islamic scholarly output in Tamil has historically been limited compared to Urdu or English.

About the Collection

The Californiana Collection consists of over 24,000 books and over 200 magazine and newspaper titles in paper and on microfilm as well as a collection of state documents including state and county budgets. The goal of this collection is to present a complete picture of the history, culture, environment and artistic expression of the people of California and to some extent, the western United States.
