Failed packing is the most common cause of soot blower steam leaks. Follow this process to replace it:

Inspect the outer diameter of the stainless steel inner feed tube for deep linear scoring or pitting.

The carriage drives the forward, reverse, and rotational movements of the lance.

Calibrate and test all limit switches, proximity sensors, and emergency reverse trip mechanisms.

Listen for unusual grinding or squealing noises during a blowing cycle.
