Santos himself was deeply involved in the adaptation process, helping with early script drafts and casting suggestions. While he advocated for a faithful adaptation in terms of character, he did not want a "panel-to-panel" recreation, instead hoping the film would "play and expand on the storytelling tools" of the comic medium.
