The increasing complexity of 3D game assets has led to a significant growth in storage requirements. To mitigate this issue, game developers often employ lossy compression techniques to reduce the size of game assets. However, the compression of 3D game assets can lead to a degradation in visual quality. In this paper, we present a case study on the lossy compression of 3D game assets using Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) as a testbed. We investigate the effects of lossy compression on the visual quality and performance of GTA V. Our results show that a 10GB compressed version of GTA V can be achieved with a negligible degradation in visual quality. We also propose a novel compression framework that combines texture compression, mesh compression, and level of detail (LOD) techniques to achieve efficient compression of 3D game assets.
